The Model of the Clinical Practice of Emergency Medicine


The Model of the Clinical Practice of Emergency Medicine (EM Model) serves as the basis for the content specifications for all ABEM examinations.

ABEM is currently using the 2019 version of the EM Model to develop examinations.

It is reviewed by the EM Model Review Task Force in the spring every three years. ABEM will use the 2019 version to develop examinations beginning with the fall 2022 examinations. In the 2019 EM Model, all changes that resulted from the 2019 EM Model Review Task Force are summarized in Figure 1.

The 2022 version of The Model of the Clinical Practice of Emergency Medicine will be used to develop examinations beginning with the 2024 Qualifying Examination and 2025 In-training Examination.
