Requirements Requirements for taking an LLSA test are that the physician be a current diplomate, or a former diplomate attempting to regain certification through the EMCC Program. Not all LLSA tests are available to all diplomates and former diplomates. See LLSA Test Availability for more detail. Former diplomates must meet specific test activity requirements to regain certification through the EMCC program. Those requirements are detailed in the ABEM Policy on Regaining Certification.
Registration Process
Physicians may register for an LLSA test through EMCC Online any time that the test is available to them.
Registration is a five-step process:
- Select the LLSA test to take.
- Update medical license information and affirm that your medical license(s) comply with ABEM’s Policy on Medical Licensure.
- Pay for the test. The payment step involves entering appropriate credit card information and obtaining immediate approval, or selecting the option of paying off-line. View the Policy on Fees for more information about LLSA test fees.
- Review billing information to make sure it is correct.
View the Policies and Procedures – EMCC book for more information about LLSA registration.
Taking the Test
The LLSA test must be taken online. Once registered, physicians may take the LLSA test any time it is available to them. Physicians may take the LLSA immediately upon registering for it, or may wait to take the test later. There is no need to complete the test in one sitting. The LLSA test is open-book, and ABEM diplomates and former diplomates may prepare for it and take it in groups.
Once registered, a physician may take the LLSA test any time during the three years it is available. He or she may take the LLSA immediately upon registering for it, or may wait to take the test later.
Notification of Results
EMCC Online will automatically score the LLSA test when the physician submits it for scoring. The score will be available online immediately. If the physician has not passed the test, information about the number of attempts remaining within the current registration will also appear. The physician may take the LLSA test again immediately or at a later date.
A physician who passes the LLSA test has the options of printing out a certificate of test completion and e-mailing the certificate to one or more e-mail addresses, such as employers.
