• Clarification about ACCM Eligibility Criteria

In 2013, ABEM diplomates, for the first time could undertake fellowship training in Anesthesiology Critical Care Medicine (ACCM), toward the goal of becoming certified in ACCM. ABEM diplomates who started their training July 2013 could potentially apply for the 2015 ACCM certification examination through the fellowship training pathway of application.  To apply through this pathway, ABEM diplomates must successfully complete 24 months of ACCM fellowship training consisting of the ACGME-accredited ACCM fellowship program and an additional 12 months of ACCM training in that program, approved by the ABA.

Diplomates who started training in July 2013 in programs that do not receive preapproval by the ABA by December 31, 2013, will not meet the fellowship training pathway eligibility criteria and will not be able to apply for ACCM certification in 2015.  A list of pre-approved programs is available on the ABA website. Click here to access the list.  If your program is not listed, contact your program director to see if they have applied for pre-approval of the program you are attending.
