Call for Nominations

The American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) is seeking nominations for appointment to the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Review Committee for Emergency Medicine (RC-EM).

ABEM will consider all eligible applications received through October 1, 2023. ABEM will submit up to two potential nominees to the RC-EM for consideration and potential appointment. To be considered for nomination by the ABEM Board of Directors, please submit an application to ABEM via the link below.

ACGME Appointment Requirements

RC-EM members are appointed for six-year terms. The new member’s voting term will begin July 1, 2024, with observation and orientation duties to begin as early as April 2024. The Review Committee will select a nominee based on the Committee’s current needs, professional qualifications, geographic distribution, and diversity to recommend for confirmation by the ACGME Board of Directors.

ABEM will propose a slate of nominees that meet the following criteria:

  • Must be currently ABEM certified in Emergency Medicine
  • Must be participating in ABEM Continuing Certification
  • Must have five years of experience as an EM program director with no more than five years since serving as a program director (if not a current program director)
  • Must participate in major EM specialty societies
  • Must have a current or past association with graduate medical education
  • Must be able to devote sufficient time to the Review Committee’s work.
    • The RC-EM meets twice per year usually in January and April with an occasional third meeting if needed. Attendance is required. The duration of the meetings are normally one to three days.
  • Must have sufficient time to review program information (an estimated 24-30 hours for program review assignments for each meeting), to participate in subcommittee work (as assigned), to prepare for each Review Committee meeting by reviewing agenda items and related documents, to travel to/attend each Review Committee meeting, and to participate in other activities of the Review Committee.

Nominees’ GME programs must be in good standing and have a status of Continued Accreditation.

ACGME has identified preferences for gender and racial diversity as well as the Northwestern and Southwestern geographic locations.
