Reciprocal Credit

If you have more than one certification through ABEM, some of your modules may count toward both your Emergency Medicine and subspecialty continuing certification requirements.

Reciprocal Credit for Modules

ABEM continuing certification requirements include passing a set number of modules every 5 years. Select EM modules can also count toward your subspecialty module requirements.

Primary Continuing Certification Program Criteria

To participate in reciprocal credits, you:

  • Must meet all the requirements of your primary continuing certification program, including LLSA and IMP activities.
  • Can’t count activities completed within another ABMS certification program to fulfill your primary programs’ requirements.
  • Must hold a medical license that meets ABEM’s Policy on Medical Licensure.
  • Must renew each ABEM certification, which includes passing 4 MyEMCert Modules every five years.

Each ABMS Member Board decides which continuing certification activities will count toward credit. ABEM verifies the completion of activities and requirements within an ABEM continuing certification process when requested.
