Call for Applications: Due March 13, 2026

The American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) is seeking one physician to fill an ABEM representative vacancy on the Hospice and Palliative Medicine (HPM) Advisory Committee administered by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The physicians filling this position will begin their three-year term in July 2026. The application period will close on March 13, 2026.

The HPM Advisory Committee advises on matters related to certification, assessment, and policy in HPM. The committee serves as a forum for collaboration among the ABMS cosponsoring boards and provides a discipline-level perspective on emerging issues affecting certification and the HPM workforce.

Applicant Criteria

  • Must hold a subspecialty certificate in Hospice and Palliative Medicine and be in good standing.
  • Must have completed an ACGME-accredited fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
  • Must be actively involved in the clinical practice of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
  • Must fully participate in continuing certification requirements for all relevant specialties.

Requirements and Terms of Service

  • Appointees must be able to serve a three-year term and may serve up to two consecutive three-year terms.
  • Appointees must maintain certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine throughout the term of service
  • Appointees will receive reimbursement for travel expenses.

Time Commitment

The Advisory Committee meets at least once annually (in person or virtually) and, as needed, by teleconference.
