The ABEM Foundation

The ABEM Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization that supports programs and research projects promoting the ABEM mission of ensuring the highest standards in the specialty of Emergency Medicine.

To advance excellence in patient care, leadership, and professionalism in Emergency Medicine by fostering research, scholarships, education, and collaboration.
Vision
We envision a future where highly skilled and compassionate emergency physicians enhance patient care through the initiatives of our Foundation.
Areas of Support
Dr. Leon L. Haley, Jr., Bridge to the Future of Emergency Medcine Academy
- Provides second-year medical students with the opportunity to participate in an in-person, all-expense-paid, two-week mentorship opportunity.
- Students are immersed in educational and hands-on experience in critical topics:
- Disparities in health care
- Public health and health care issues in various communities
- Leadership skills
- Physician wellness
- Applying for residencies and mock interviews
- Visiting two Emergency Medicine residency programs
- Complete portfolio project
J. David Barry, MD, ABMS Visiting Scholar Program
- Facilitates leadership development through engagement with the ABMS and the broader medical community for early-career physicians and research professionals
- Ideal for individuals looking to positively impact their profession as well as specialty certification through research
Research

The ABEM Foundation aims to ensure the highest standards in Emergency Medicine for all and to develop tomorrow’s leaders in health care through education.
Potential Future Projects
- A Young Physician Leadership Development Fellowship that promotes the professional development of early-career physicians with a devoted interest in leadership and health equity.
- Support the development of an ABEM Annual/Biannual Foundation Summit devoted to discussing emerging or ongoing trends in healthcare and, in particular, Emergency Medicine.
