FPDs allow physicians to concentrate their continuing certification efforts in the very area on which much of their professional practice is based. ABEM offers FPDs in the areas below, and more are being developed!

Advanced Emergency Medicine Ultrasonography (AEMUS) 

Description: While residency-trained emergency physicians have acquired basic expertise applying ultrasound in the emergency department, those physicians who specialize in AEMUS will have acquired a greater breadth and depth of knowledge in advanced techniques, research, and quality improvement skills.

In Development: Emergency Behavioral Health (EBH)

Description: EBH physicians will increase access to care for emergency department patients seeking acute, unscheduled, mental health treatment. Appropriate and timely emergency behavioral health care can now be more effectively provided to patients who are boarding in the emergency department while awaiting an inpatient psychiatric bed.
