Now Available: ABEM Exam Pass Rates by Residency Program

The American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) has published residency-specific, aggregated pass rate data for first-time test takers of the Qualifying and Oral Certification Examinations. The ABEM Board of Directors requested feedback from multiple sources, including residency program directors, on publishing exam pass rates, and provided advance notice and release to the residency programs.

The current published pass rate data can be found on the ABEM website under Exam & Certification Statistics

It is worth noting that pass rate data will only be published for programs that have graduated at least three classes of residents who have had an opportunity to take the Qualifying Exam. Additionally, ABEM will publish only the aggregated number of examinees to protect the anonymity of those taking the exams.

“This is an important step in the right direction as we seek to increase transparency, support applicants, and strengthen trust within the Emergency Medicine community through publishing the pass rate data,” shared James D. Thomas, MD, ABEM President.

Physicians and others with questions are encouraged to contact training@abem.org.
