Substance and Opioid Use Disorder
Learning Modules

To assist physicians in meeting the DEA requirement for CME on substance and opioid use disorders, two new modules are offered as an added benefit to ABEM-certified physicians.

✔ Substance Use Disorder Module - 4 CME credits
✔ Opioid Use Disorder Module - 2 CME credits

Both modules are intended to provide pragmatic, practice-changing information that will result in improved emergency care. ABEM-certified physicians have free access to the modules if they are up to date on their annual certification fee. Low-cost CME is available when registering. To use these modules to meet the DEA CME requirement, you must register for the optional CME credit when you register for the module.

In addition to ABEM-certified physicians, the Substance Use Disorder and Opioid Use Disorder modules are available to residents, physicians who are in the initial certification process, and those who are subspecialty certified by ABEM with primary certification by another ABMS Board. To find out how to access, please contact ABEM at 517-332-4800, option 2 or staycertified@abem.org.

CME Credits

To use these modules to meet the DEA CME requirement, you must register for the optional CME credit when you register for the module. After passing the module, you can access your CME certificate in your ABEM portal under certificates and test history. The CME available for the Opioid and Substance Abuse modules will count toward the DEA requirement. We are proud to partner with AAEM and ACEP, the CME providers for these learning modules. Although you will access the modules and register for CME through ABEM's Portal, all fees for the CME option go directly to the CME providers.
