Call for Applications: MedTox Subboard Members
Applications Accepted Through September 4, 2026.
The American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) Medical Toxicology (MedTox) Subboard seeks two physician members to fill vacancies on the Subboard. The physicians selected for appointment will begin their term on January 1, 2027. To support onboarding, selected applicants will begin participating in MedTox item-writing activities in 2026 and are expected to attend the Item Writing meeting in person on October 13–15, 2026 in Detroit, Michigan. The application period will close on Friday, September 4, 2026.
Applicant Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be certified by an ABMS Member Board in a primary specialty for a minimum of five years before the initial term begins;
- Have successfully completed an ACGME-accredited Medical Toxicology fellowship;
- Hold current certification in Medical Toxicology;
- Be actively involved in the clinical practice of Medical Toxicology; and
- Participate fully in the Medical Toxicology continuing certification process.
MedTox Subboard Member Roles and Responsibilities:
- Actively participate in one virtual business meeting and one in-person Item Writing Meeting;
- Serve as an item writer for the initial certification examination and LLSA exam;
- Serve as an item writer for MyToxCert modules;
- Review and edit items for all assessments;
- Select articles for inclusion in MyToxCert;
- Update and create the core content of Medical Toxicology that is used as the basis of all assessments;
- Update the assessment blueprints; and
- Oversee Standard Setting for all assessments.
Time Commitment
- The term will run for four years, with the possibility of reappointment to a second and final four-year term.
- Estimated annual time commitment, inclusive of meetings and travel: 150 – 180 hours
