Nominations Sought for EMS Subboard Member

Special Call for Nominations

The American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Subboard is seeking one physician member to fill an upcoming vacancy on the Subboard. ABEM encourages nominations from across the Emergency Medical Services community. The physician filling this position will begin his or her term in January 2023. The nominations period will close November 7, 2022.

Nominee Criteria

  • Be certified in EM for a minimum of five years before the initial term begins.
  • Be certified in EMS
  • Be actively involved in the clinical practice of EMS
  • Participate fully in the EMS continuing certification program
  • If the diplomate wishes to maintain EM certification, the following criteria must be met:
    • Be certified in EM
    • Be actively involved in the clinical practice of EM
    • Actively participate in the ABEM program of continuing certification at the same level as required of all ABEM diplomates 

EMS Subboard Member Roles and Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in a business meeting, one in-person Item Writing meeting, and other virtual meetings as needed
  • Item writer for the certification exam and LLSA exam
  • Item writer for MyEMSCert modules
  • Review and edit items for all assessments
  • Determine articles to be used for LLSA and MyEMSCert
  • Update and create the core content of EMS that is used as the basis of all assessments
  • Update the assessment blueprints
  • Oversee Standard Setting for all assessments
  • Actively participate in Subboard committees as assigned (e.g., exam editor, MyEMSCert editor, credentialing, etc.)

Time Commitment

Overall time commitment inclusive of meetings and travel: 85 – 95 hours annually.
