42 years ago today, ABEM was approved by the American Board of Medical Specialties making Emergency Medicine the 23rd recognized medical specialty.
We honor the dedicated, pioneering physicians who saw the demand for improved quality of care in hospital emergency departments and paved the path for the specialty of Emergency Medicine. We are proud of all ABEM-certified physicians who have carried on the legacy of ensuring the highest standards in the specialty of Emergency Medicine.
